The Rockefeller University`s Department of Hospital Biostatistics, seeks a computational scientist to join our biomedical team. This position is funded from September 30, 2009 through June 30, 2011.
We have recently build a grid-based Web server for a novel biostatistical approach to genome-wide association and gene expression studies, which opens exciting new options for detecting drug targets for common, complex diseases. Will contribute to strengthening our grid server ( http://mustat.rockefeller.edu ) through improving information flow and leading the development of user interfaces. S/he will be the lead author on bioinformatics papers and participate in a series of genomic publications comparing the novel non-parametric multivariate methods to traditional univariate methods and extending previous results by identifying combinations of genetic risk factors. Will also be available as a consultative resource for clinical and translational researchers to assist them with designing studies.
Requirements: Master`s degree required; Ph.D. preferred. Educational emphasis in mathematics, computer science and/or statistics preferred. Must have experience in programming and scripting languages (S-PLUS/R, C/C++, Pearl) and in working in a heterogeneous grid environment, strong writing skills demonstrated with a proven record of independent publications, and experience in the access of data repositories of genetic and genomic data. A solid background in biology and genetics when applied to clinical and translational research strongly preferred. Interest in computational statistics necessary.
We offer a comprehensive benefits program and a competitive salary. The Rockefeller University is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, on a 15-acre campus, along the East River ( www.rockefeller.edu/views.php).
