Abrams Media, a publisher of blog-based media and culture sites, seeks a full-time web developer/designer to create site frameworks, design elements and functional applications for a multi-site expansion of its content network.
These sites – the first of which is www.mediaite.com – are user-friendly blogs running on a heavily customized version of Wordpress. Our Power Grid, a major feature of the site (
http://www.mediaite.com/power-grid/
), relies on a mix of standard databasing software and PHP.
Candidates MUST have the following qualifications. An applicant who fails to meet any of these requirements will NOT be considered:
*** Candidate must live in the NYC metropolitan area
*** Candidate must be available to take a full-time position at our offices in SoHo
*** Candidate must be an individual - emails from design firms or outsourcing farms will be deleted
*** Candidate must have experience working with blogs and/or content management systems - if you have only worked with static websites, please do not apply
*** MOST IMPORTANTLY, a candidate MUST have experience in both graphic art-based web design AND coding-based web development - skill in only one field is not acceptable.
Applicants must have knowledge of the following technical skills:
*** Standard web design languages and frameworks: HTML, XML, CSS, etc.
*** Both client- and server-side scripting
*** Familiarity with one or more web application development languages (Java, Ruby, etc.)
*** Familiarity with database scripting and access – you`ll be responsible for the user-facing side of the database, but internal customization and data entry are handled elsewhere
*** CMS customization and plugin development
*** Graphic design and site layout (through the Adobe Creative Suite or alternatives): everything from wireframes to pre-creative to accessibility concerns
*** Video solutions for content management systems
